As the 2026 NHL regular season is reaching the home stretch, so are the seasons at the junior, collegiate, and other professional leagues around the hockey world. Each NHL organization has seen a number of its prospects have strong seasons and stretches, and the Detroit Red Wings are no different. Whether it is players in Grand Rapids with the organization’s American Hockey League (AHL) team, or prospects who have yet to make the jump to the North American professional ranks, there has been plenty for Red Wings fans to be excited about.
Carter Bear
After tearing his Achilles toward the end of his draft-year season, Carter Bear impressed enough in his first NHL training camp to earn some time in preseason with the Red Wings. While he was ultimately returned to the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League (WHL), the 2025 first-round pick has displayed exactly why many viewed him as highly as they did going into the 2025 Draft. He did have a bit of a slower start to the season, but as it has progressed, he has looked stellar for the Silvertips.
Since his return to the Silvertips after the World Junior Championship (WJC), where he only played a total of eight minutes for Canada, Bear has been on an absolute tear offensively. In 23 games, he has put up 20 goals, 19 assists, and 39 points. He has had more multi-point games than games without a point, having been held off the scoresheet just three times since the beginning of January. Mixed into his impressive stats are two hat tricks. In the month of February alone, he tallied 25 points and earned WHL Player of the Month honors.
But it is not just the offensive game that continues to impress; it is the entire two-way game that he has displayed. Bear has been an absolute pest both in the defensive zone and on the forecheck. With the mix of top-end offensive skill, work ethic, and responsible two-way game, he is going to be a player who could end up raising eyebrows even more at training camp next season.
Michael Brandsegg-Nygård
After making the opening night roster for the Red Wings this season and playing in nine games, Michael Brandsegg-Nygård ended up being sent down to Grand Rapids. In Grand Rapids, he has really begun to develop his game and has gotten fully accustomed to the North American style of play. Heading into the 2024 Draft, Brandsegg-Nygård was touted as a player who could really do it all. He has the skill to be a massive impact player on the offensive side of the puck, and has the tenacity to be a wrecking ball defensively.

He has done just that as of late for the Griffins, putting his all-around game on full display following a quiet end to the month of January. In February, Brandsegg-Nygård was the Griffins’ most consistent player at both ends of the ice. He continued to show the confidence to fire the puck whenever he was given the time and space to do so, and showed he has no issue throwing his weight around on the ice. What stands out most about his game as of late is that even when he isn’t producing offensively, he is still making an impact.
With the continued development and production he has shown this season, Brandsegg-Nygård could push for a late-season call-up if Red Wings general manager (GM) Steve Yzerman and head coach Todd McLellan look to shake up the bottom half of the lineup. If not, he will easily push for a spot on next season’s opening night roster.
Rudy Guimond
While everyone knows the names and the play of goaltenders Trey Augustine (Michigan State University) and Sebastian Cossa (Grand Rapids), Rudy Guimond continues to somewhat fly under the radar when it comes to Red Wings goaltending prospects. While he has had a rough game here and there, Guimond has been rock-solid in his first full season with the Moncton Wildcats of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL).

The overall sound play in the crease has helped him rank in the top three in all three major goaltending statistics (save percentage, goals-against average, and wins). He leads the QMJHL in wins by five (33) and could very easily help lead the Wildcats to a deep playoff run again this season after helping the team reach the Memorial Cup as QMJHL champions. With the deep goaltending talent the Red Wings have in their system, will Guimond end up being a major part of a goaltending tandem in the organization’s future? Time will tell as he faces the uphill battle of unseating Augustine and Cossa, but the Harvard commit could also end up being either an asset in a trade or even viewed as a piece that makes moving another goaltender in the system easier for Yzerman.
Amadeus Lombardi
The injury bug once again hit Amadeus Lombardi this season, and has limited him to just 33 games with the Grand Rapids Griffins. But Lombardi has shown exactly why so many Red Wings fans have gotten excited to watch him play. The energy and work ethic he brings are always a big part of his game, and they are contagious for the rest of the team. His offensive game has fully translated this season, as he is playing at a point-per-game pace (11 goals, 22 assists, 33 points).
He is much like Brandsegg-Nygård in the sense that even if he is not producing offensively, he still makes an impact in a game. Whether it is his speed or his relentless play away from the puck, he is an energizer and a consistent player when he is healthy and in the lineup. He may not have top-six upside at the NHL level, but he could end up being a player who fills a third-line spot and brings some secondary scoring and penalty killing to the Red Wings’ lineup in the future.
Prospects Continue to Shine
The aforementioned prospects within the Red Wings’ system are just a few who have had strong showings as of late. There are plenty of prospects who have played big roles for their respective teams, while also taking the next jump in their development in hopes of being part of the Red Wings’ future. Some may end up being trade chips, and some very well could be a big part of the Red Wings’ success down the line. With the trade deadline just around the corner, we may end up seeing some of these prospects in talks when it comes to moves for immediate help on the NHL roster.
