Columbus Blue Jackets Sign Carson Soucy to a PTO – The Hockey Writers – Columbus Blue Jackets

On Sept. 13, the Columbus Blue Jackets signed defenseman Carson Soucy to a professional tryout agreement (PTO).

Soucy is a 31-year-old defenseman who has been around the NHL for a while. He was selected by the Minnesota Wild in the fifth round of the 2013 NHL Draft. He began his NHL career in the 2017-18 season, playing with the Wild. He played with Minnesota for two more seasons, 2019-20 and 2020-21, before he was selected by the Seattle Kraken in their expansion draft.

Soucy played in Seattle for two seasons and then signed with the Vancouver Canucks in free agency. He played there for a season and a half but was traded to the New York Rangers in the middle of the 2024-25 season. He finished out the season with the Rangers and then began the 2025-26 season with them as well. In the middle of the season, he was dealt to the New York Islanders.

In his 10 seasons in the NHL, Soucy has played for five different teams. He has recorded 99 points, via 32 goals and 67 assists, in 441 games.

Soucy Will Bolster the Blue Line

Soucy will be a great addition to Columbus. Even though he doesn’t have the greatest point production, that doesn’t matter when he is doing what he needs to do: defend the blue line. He is a strong defender who records plenty of minutes and tries to outspeed the opposing team.

Soucy has great NHL experience, making him a valuable veteran to the Blue Jackets’ blue line. He will also be a great asset to the younger defenders and help them get ready for NHL ice. His experience makes him a valuable asset to both the team as a whole and his fellow defensemen.

Soucy will have to make it through training camp to officially be a part of Columbus’ team heading into the 2026-27 season. He will be sure to have a strong performance to make it through training camp and get a contract to go into the coming season as well.
