The NBA free agency officially started yesterday and players were coming off the market left and right. A few big-name players were quick to sign with teams and like always a few shockers on the first day and early into the second day.
With these players off the free agent market and others who have agreed on new contracts, here’s an updated list of the 10 best available free agents.
Deandre Ayton
A new face in the free agent market is the 2017 No.1 pick. Ayton and the Portland Trail Blazers have finalized a contract buyout for him to become a free agent. Ayton spent his last two seasons with the Trailblazers after being traded from the Phoenix Suns. This year with the Trailblazers, he averaged 14.4 points and 10.2 rebounds on 56.6%. Ayton has never averaged less than a double-double in his career and could be a valuable big for any team that needs a big man.
Malik Beasley
One of the best 3-point shooters in the NBA this season, Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley could be on the move. Beasley ranked second in the league in made 3-pointers (319), setting a franchise record while shooting 41.6% from deep. Signed to a one-year, $6 million deal, he’s expected to command a much larger contract in free agency. Beasley is currently under investigation by the Federal authorities on gambling allegations related to NBA games and could be on the market longer than expected.
Cam Thomas
Thomas is one of the best scorers on this list. He can explode for 30 points at any time. The 23-year-old shooting guard for the Brooklyn Nets has averaged over 20 points over the last two years. Thomas only played 25 games this year due to a nagging hamstring injury. Whatever team Thomas decides to go to will get a bonafide scorer.
Malcolm Brogdon
The former Sixth Man of the Year is heading to his 10th year in the year. Brogdon played last season with the Washington Wizards. He played only 24 games last season due to a left ankle sprain injury that sidelined him for the final 28 games of the season. In the time he played, he averaged 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists.
Jonathan Kuminga
The Golden State Warriors forward has started to come into his own and grow as a player over the last two seasons, averaging double-digit points. This year, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists. Kuminga is one of few restricted free agents on this list. If Kuminga declines his $7.9 million offer from the Warriors, he will hit the market, but if the Warriors match any offer, he’ll play for the Warriors for his fifth season.
Josh Giddey
After three years with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Giddey was traded to the Chicago Bulls last year. In his only year with the Bulls, Giddey was one of the top scorers on the team while leading them in assists and steals (1.2). Giddey averaged 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists. He would add his defensive and all-around game to any contending team in the NBA. Giddey is the other restricted free agent on this list.
Spencer Dinwiddie
The 11-year veteran spent last season with the Dallas Mavericks. This was his second stint with the Mavs. This time around, Dinwiddie came off the bench most of the time, averaging 11 points, 4.4 assists and 2.6 rebounds. Dinwiddie can bring his veteran presence and experience to any team in a position to win.
Russell Westbrook\
The former MVP is looking forward to his 18th season in the league. Westbrook is more known for tenacity and effort than his athleticism now in the later stages of his career. Westbrook played with the Denver Nuggets last year, coming off the bench most of the time. He averaged 13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 4.9 rebounds. His experience and effort could be valuable to any contending team.
Quentin Grimes
One of the bright spots for the Philadelphia 76ers last season was the play of Grimes. The Sixers traded for Grimes before the deadline and with injuries to Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey Sixers needed a scorer. In 28 games with the 76ers Grimes averaged 21.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.5 assists.
Ben Simmons
After a contract buyout with the Brooklyn Nets in Feb. of this month, the former No. 1 pick joined the LA Clippers for the rest of the 2024-25 season. Simmons averaged 5 points, 4,7 rebounds and 5.6 assists last season.
