Anaheim Ducks Lock Up Top Picks Sennecke and Solberg!

Anaheim Ducks prospects

The Anaheim Ducks solidified their future on Friday by signing both their first-round picks from the 2024 NHL Draft to three-year entry-level contracts.

Sennecke Sets High Expectations for Himself

Leading the charge is 18-year-old forward Beckett Sennecke, who went third overall. Fresh off an impressive performance at Anaheim’s development camp, Sennecke acknowledged the pressure that comes with being a high draft pick. “There are definitely high expectations,” he said. “Being the third pick puts a lot on your shoulders, but I have high expectations for myself too. I’m here to work hard and live up to the hype.”

Beckett Sennecke NHL Draft

Sennecke put up a dominant season with the Oshawa Generals in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) last year, racking up an impressive 68 points (27 goals and 41 assists) in just 63 games. He continued his hot streak in the playoffs, leading all draft-eligible skaters in both goals (10) and points (22) over 18 games.

Sennecke: A Well-Rounded Threat

Sennecke wasn’t a one-dimensional scorer. He paced Oshawa in game-winning goals (7) and shots on net (207), while also ranking highly in other offensive categories. The Toronto native finished second in plus-minus rating, third in overall scoring, fourth in assists, and fifth in goals for his team. This well-rounded performance earned him a spot on the OHL Second All-Rookie Team in 2022-23.

Solberg Brings International Flair to the D-Line

Sennecke wasn’t the only young talent the Ducks secured on Friday. Stian Solberg, the team’s other first-round pick at 23rd overall, also inked a three-year deal. The 18-year-old defenseman hails from Oslo, Norway, and brings a wealth of experience playing against professionals.

Stian Solberg NHL Draft

Last season, Solberg carved out a niche for himself in Valerenga, Norway’s top professional league. He chipped in with 15 points (5 goals and 10 assists) in 42 games. Solberg’s impressive performance didn’t go unnoticed. He led all skaters under 18 in scoring and his point total ranked fourth-most ever by a defenseman under 18 in league history.

Anaheim Ducks young guns

The signings of Sennecke and Solberg mark a significant step forward for the Anaheim Ducks. These young players have the potential to be key contributors for years to come, and their arrival injects a wave of excitement into the Ducks’ fan base.
