Columbus Blue Jackets have secured the services of young forward Kirill Marchenko, signing him to a three-year contract worth $11.55 million. The deal, finalized on Sunday, carries an average annual value of $3.85 million.

The 24-year-old Russian forward, entering restricted free agency, had been scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing on Wednesday. However, this agreement eliminates the need for such proceedings.

Blue Jackets General Manager Don Waddell expressed enthusiasm about retaining Marchenko. “Kirill has been a standout player for us in his first two NHL seasons, and keeping him in Columbus was a top priority,” Waddell stated. “His size, skill, and goal-scoring ability make him a crucial part of our team’s future.”

Marchenko enjoyed a breakout season in 2023-24, setting career highs in goals (23), assists (19), and total points (42) while appearing in 78 games. His impressive rookie campaign saw him net 21 goals.

The Blue Jackets faced a challenging 2023-24 season, finishing at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division and missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the fourth consecutive year. To turn things around, the team appointed Dean Evason as head coach in July and signed veteran forward Sean Monahan to a lucrative five-year contract earlier in the month
