If the Seattle Seahawks are to hold on and win Super Bowl LX, they’ll have to do it without their best player.Â
Wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba went into the locker room to be evaluated for a concussion in the third quarter of Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. Smith-Njigba left the game earlier in the quarter after catching a screen pass that went for four yards.Â
At the time of his departure, Smith-Njigba only had three catches for 24 yards. But the Seahawks held a 12-0 lead entering the fourth quarter and added the game’s first touchdown to increase their lead to 19-0 with 13:23 left. But the Patriots fought back, scoring a touchdown when Drake Maye hit Mack Hollins with a 35-yard pass.
Smith-Njigba was named Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday after a standout regular season. He led the league with 1,793 receiving yards, adding 10 touchdown grabs. He also has two receiving touchdowns this postseason, logging 153 receiving yards in their win over the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
