Two young Anaheim Ducks have received accolades in their respective leagues. NHL rookie and emerging Ducks’ superstar Beckett Sennecke was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team. Maxim Masse, a prospect, earned the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) David Branch Player of the Year Award.
Sennecke’s Season
After being drafted in the first round, third overall, in 2025, excitement was building around Sennecke. He did not disappoint in his rookie season. He played a full season, scoring 23 goals and notching 37 assists for a wildly impressive 60-point season. Though he is now 20 years old, the 18 goals he scored as a teenager were the most in a single season in franchise history.
Sennecke made history in other ways, too. His 23 goals were tied with Trevor Zegras for third among the franchise for goals in a rookie season. He trailed only Bobby Ryan, who had 31, and Dustin Penner, who had 29. He is also the youngest player in Ducks history to reach 60 points, and is the only one to achieve that milestone in the first two seasons following his draft. He trailed Zegras’ rookie points and assists records by just one point each.
Sennecke’s first career hat trick was one for the history books, too. He scored it on Jan. 25 against the Calgary Flames, and he was just the third player in NHL history to score a hat trick that included an overtime winner at under 20 years old. His phenomenal feats just kept coming. According to the NHL, “he scored the game-tying goal with .01 seconds left in regulation Dec. 9 at Pittsburgh, tied for the latest game-tying shorthanded goal in NHL history at 19:59 of the third period.” This made him the first rookie in league history to score a game-tying goal in the final second of a game.
The All-Rookie Team
Sennecke was given the honor after a vote conducted by the Professional Hockey Writers Association at the end of the season. He is the eighth franchise rookie to secure a spot on the All-Rookie Team, and he joins a list of highly talented players. Cutter Gauthier (2024-25), Zegras (2021-22), John Gibson (2015-16), Hampus Lindholm (2013-14), Frederik Anderson (2013-14), Bobby Ryan (2008-09) and Paul Kariya (1994-95) all received the accolade as well.

He joins a crew of six highly talented players on the All-Rookie Team. The Montreal Canadiens’ Ivan Demidov and St. Louis Blues’ Jimmy Snuggerud round out the forward line. New York Islander and Calder Trophy winner Matthew Schaefer and Carolina Hurricanes’ Alexander Nikishin are the defensive pair. Canadiens goaltender Jakub Dobes got the nod as well.
Masse’s Season and Award
Anaheim drafted Masse in the third round of the 2024 NHL Draft, 66th overall. He has been playing for the Chicoutimi Sangueneens for four seasons and has served as an alternate captain for three of those seasons. He had a standout season with 51 goals and 51 assists for 102 points. His goal total co-led the CHL, and he was one of just two players across the league to pass the 50-goal and 100-point marks this season.
He secured second place in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with a plus-62 rating, 16 power-play goals, and eight game-winners. He led the league with 1.62 points per game. This stellar performance led him to be named the QMJHL’s Most Valuable Player. He will finish his time in the league leading in both points and goals across four seasons. He has amassed a jaw-dropping 298 points (149 goals, 149 assists) in his tenure. He is committed to the University of Massachusetts for next season.

Masse became the sixth player in CHL history to win both the CHL Rookie of the Year Award, which he won in 2022-23, and the CHL David Branch Player of the Year Award over the course of his career. He joins elite talent — Sidney Crosby, John Tavares, Alex DeBrincat, Alexis Lafreniere, and projected top draft pick Gavin McKenna on the list.
The David Branch Player of the Year Award is given out yearly to the most outstanding player in the CHL, which encompasses teams from the QMJHL, Ontario Hockey League, and Western Hockey League. Masse had a slew of tough competition, but his historic and impressive season made him stand above the rest.
These two talented players are just a small part of the Ducks’ exciting and bright future.
