Ben Danford, a hockey enthusiast from the small town of Madoc, Ontario, has always had a special connection to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Growing up a mere two and a half hours away from the iconic Scotiabank Arena, his passion for the team was ignited at a young age. So, when the Maple Leafs were on the clock with the 31st pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, it felt like destiny when Danford’s name was called.

The eighteen-year-old defenseman is thrilled about joining his childhood team. He describes himself as a two-way player with a strong defensive foundation and offensive upside. Known for his hard-nosed style, Danford is eager to contribute to the team through blocking shots and playing in various game situations.

Toronto has been actively seeking defensive talent to bolster its roster, and Danford’s skill set aligns perfectly with the team’s vision. During development camp, he had the incredible opportunity to work closely with Jake Muzzin, a former Maple Leafs defenseman turned pro scout.
