Devils Re-Sign Amadeus Lombardi to a 2-Year Contract – The Hockey Writers – New Jersey Devils

On Friday, July 3, the New Jersey Devils announced that they have re-signed forward Amadeus Lombardi to a two-year contract. The deal is worth $175,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level and $850,000 at the NHL level for 2026-27. Then, it will transition to a one-way deal at $900,000 for 2027-28.

The team acquired Lombardi last week ahead of the 2026 NHL Draft, sending their fourth-round selection (108th overall) to the Detroit Red Wings. The 23-year-old center has played for the Grand Rapids Griffins for the past three seasons, tallying 109 points in 163-career regular-season AHL games.

Prior to his time in the AHL, he spent two seasons in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Flint Firebirds, including a breakout season in 2022-23 with 45 goals and 102 points.

He was drafted 113th overall by the Red Wings in 2022, but is still waiting to make his NHL debut. However, he could easily slot into the Devils’ bottom six, should he have a strong performance at training camp this September. If the team decides to part ways with Nick Bjugstad, Lombardi could even fill in as their fourth-line center.

This deal marks another low-risk move by general manager Sunny Mehta to try to improve the team’s depth scoring. Most notably, they added Jesper Boqvist and Evan Rodrigues earlier this week as part of the trade that sent goaltender Jacob Markstrom to the Florida Panthers.

A solid center with strong two-way abilities, Lombardi is praised for his speed, skill, and confident playmaking. The Devils have been looking to bolster their secondary scoring, and considering his high offensive ceiling, Lombardi could become one of the team’s secret weapons for 2026-27.
