The New Jersey Devils announced have re-signed goaltender Nico Daws to a two-year contract with an average annual value (AAV) of $1.1 million. As it stands, he will receive $975,000 for 2026-27 and $1.225 million for 2027-28.
While the hunt for a new starting goaltender continues, it was important for the Devils to ensure depth in the crease by extending Daws. Previously a restricted free agent (RFA), the organization gave him a qualifying offer on June 29 to maintain his rights.
You’re gonna need a bigger net. Nico Daws is back for two more years.

Drafted 84th overall by the Devils in 2020, Daws has spent the majority of the last few seasons with the Utica Comets in the American Hockey League (AHL). Last season, he posted a 17-16-8 record with the Comets, along with a .892 save percentage (SV%). But he has also performed well when called up to the NHL during times of need: In the three games he suited up for the Devils in 2025-26, he went 2-1-0 with a .908 SV%.Â

Throughout his NHL career, Daws has appeared in 55 games for the Devils, with a 2.96 goals against average (GAA), one shutout, and 24 wins. Among those victories was in the famous 2024 Stadium Series game, where he set the record for the most saves in an outdoor NHL game with 45.
Moving forward, it should come as no surprise if Daws receives more time in the crease. Despite his previous status as a third-string goalie, there’s a chance he’ll be able to compete for a 1B role for 2026-27.
