The New Jersey Devils are facing a ton of pressure heading into the 2026-27 season. They have a strong team, but last season, they crumbled and missed the postseason after a solid start. The Devils are determined not to let that happen again.
Each player has a role to fill, and as we gear up for the season, we can start predicting how each player will perform as we continue our Devils’ player projections through the forward group. Next up is Cody Glass.
2025-26 Performance
Glass played in 70 games with the Devils for the 2025-26 season. This was also his first full season with the Devils, after he was traded to New Jersey at the 2024-25 deadline. He recorded 26 points via 19 goals and seven assists. Unfortunately, he had some injuries this season; the first was an upper-body injury in October, followed by another, undisclosed injury late in January.
Glass kicked off the 2025-26 season with a bang, scoring the second goal in their season debut against the Carolina Hurricanes. He helped bring the Devils back to life, tying the game. However, the Hurricanes bested them 6-3 in the end.
Glass overall had a streaky performance, recording points and then going stretches without any. His best performance was on Jan. 23, where he scored two goals and recorded one assist. In the game prior, he scored a goal and recorded an assist, marking five points in just two games. Unfortunately, it wasn’t much of a streak, as he couldn’t continue the pattern.
Expectations for 2026-27
Like many players on the Devils in 2025-26, Glass flexed between the top six and the bottom six. The lines often shifted, but for the most part, he played on the bottom six. Heading into 2026-27, the Devils will need Glass to remain a solid fixture on the bottom six.
The best spot in the lineup for Glass is centering the third line. It will give him an opportunity to record some minutes while also getting a chance to produce points. He will likely be playing with some of the younger players, such as Arseny Gritsyuk. The pair, along with Dawson Mercer bringing up the right wing, can make for a well-performing third line.
Glass is heading into the final season on his two-year contract with the Devils. He has clearly been a benefit to the Devils after they received him from the Pittsburgh Penguins. With all the work the Devils management has been putting in to upgrade the team at forward, Glass will need to put in the work to prove he deserves a contract extension.
Upcoming Milestones
Provided Glass stays healthy for the full season, he will have played in his 400th NHL game. If he plays in all 84 games this season, Glass will reach 406 NHL games. This will be a major accomplishment, and he will be even closer to his 500th NHL game.
Glass broke 100 points last season, and he currently has scored 54 goals and recorded 65 assists. It doesn’t feel like he’ll break 100 goals or assists next season, but he can get closer to achieving that goal in 2027-28.
Projections for 2026-27
My bold prediction for Glass is that he will have a 30+ point season. He has only done this once, back in 2022-23 with the Nashville Predators. If Glass remained healthy for the duration of the 2025-26 season, he likely would have recorded 30 points, as he was four points shy of 30 after playing in 70 games.
Glass is facing a lot of stress this season, as he is at the end of his contract. If he wants to remain in New Jersey, he will have to have a strong 2026-27 performance to guarantee a contract extension for the seasons to come.
