After an exciting semifinal between Jamaica and United States men’s national soccer teams ended with Jamaica edging out by one goal with an astounding score of 3-2, the 2024 CONCACAF Nations League Final now moves onto its championship match between the United States and Mexico national soccer teams, where one will vie to become champion and earn bragging rights at tournament’s conclusion.
On Sunday, Mar 24Mar 24, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, the CONCACAF Nations League Final between USA and Mexico will take place with kick-off time scheduled at 6:15 p.m. Pacific/9:15 Eastern.
Additionally, Panama will face Jamaica a few hours earlier at this same stadium, beginning at 3 p.m. P.T./6 p.m. E.T. in their battle for third place.

After their breathtaking come-from-behind semifinal win against Jamaica on Thursday, the United States Men’s National Team secured their spot in Sunday’s Concacaf Nations League Final at AT&T Stadium against Mexican counterparts – their longstanding adversaries.

CONCACAF Nations League final
Sunday marks an opportunity for the United Soccer Men’s National Team (USMNT) to maintain its dominance in the CNL tournament by becoming the only team ever to have won all three editions in 2021 and 2023, respectively.
Christian Pulisic scored twice against Mexico while Ricardo Pepi scored from the bench as Christian Pulisic led Team USA to an easy 3-0 victory at the 2023 Club National League Semifinal. Chris Richards and Folarin Balogun then each scored their inaugural international goals via Gio Reyna’s assist, giving Team USA another two wins against Canada, with Matt Turner maintaining two clean sheets between both matches.
Gio Reyna, Weston McKennie and Christian Pulisic scored brilliant goals against Mexico during the inaugural championship match of 2021; Ethan Horvath made an extra-time penalty save against Andres Guardado to seal an amazing 3-2 USA win!
USMNT vs Mexico final
The U.S. squad arrived at Sunday’s Nations League Final on the back of an intense semifinal clash against Jamaica last Thursday.
Reggae Boyz scored early and often against their opposition this season, taking an early advantage through an innovative throw-in sequence in which Bobby De Cordova-Reid’s end-line cross was converted by Greg Leigh with an assured header within one minute of kick-off.
U.S. Soccer controlled possession for most of 94 minutes while taking 20 shots, only to be denied by Jamaica’s strong defensive setup. Finally, in regular time’s final minute, Haji Wright earned Christian Pulisic a corner kick which Miles Robinson headed backwards off Jamaican forward Cory Burke and into the back of the net, equalizing and sending this match into extra time at the 90+5 minute mark.
Gio Reyna and Haji Wright combined early in the first period for one of two extra-time goals, which would secure U.S. advancement to the final. Reyna picked up a loose ball near midfield and deftly picked out Wright, who was making an entrance into the box from midfield; Reyna’s accurate pass reached Wright at full stride, allowing Wright to take one touch before unleashing a left-footed shot past goalkeeper Andre Blake for what proved the decisive goal in extra time.
At 3-1 down in the 109th minute, Wright once more found himself on the end of Reyna’s through ball, collecting with his back toward the goal before turning and shooting into the right side of the net for another three-goal lead that they would hold onto until final whistle blew.
USMNT third consecutive championship
Mexico only made it this far after winning their quarterfinal quarter against Honduras via a shootout last November. Honduras prevailed 2-0 at Tegucigalpa before El Tri fought back with two consecutive 2-0 victories from Luis Chavez and Edson Alvarez that levelled things on aggregate; Mexico finally won 4-2 via shootout after levelling this way on aggregate.
Mexico had only played one friendly between their CNL quarterfinal series last fall and this week’s Finals: a 3-2 friendly loss against Colombia at L.A. Coliseum on Dec 16Dec 16, 2023. Omar Govea and Guillermo Martinez gave El Tri an early two-goal advantage before Andres Reyes, Robert Martinez, and Andre Gomez scored three second-half goals to bring Colombia back.
El Tri easily overpowered Panama on Thursday at AT&T Stadium for their semifinal meeting, coming away victorious 3-0 thanks to goals scored by Edson Alvarez, Julian Quinones, and Orbelin Pineda.
Mexico leads in all-time series 36-23-17, but America enters this matchup undefeated against their archrival, holding onto their unbeaten streak against them (6-0-2) since being bested 3-0 at East Rutherford, N.J. on Sept 6Sept 6, 2019
On Jun 6Jun 6, 2021, at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver, Colo., they started off their streak by defeating F.C. Cincinnati 3-2 in extra time at Empower Field at Mile High – in a match decided by two penalty kicks from Christian Pulisic (110th minute) before Ethan Horvath, coming off the bench after replacing injured Zack Steffen in extra time, prevented Andres Guardado (four minutes into stoppage time of second extra time) from scoring another penalty kick of his own from Andres Guardado four minutes into stoppage time in extra time 2.
Last Jun 15Jun 15, they met again for the Nations League semifinals in Las Vegas’ Allegiant Stadium. It ended 3-0 for Team USA courtesy of Christian Pulisic scoring two goals on either side of halftime – 37th and 46th minutes, respectively. Ricardo Pepi then sealed American victory by scoring an important late goal to send Team USA through to its inaugural Nations League final against Argentina later on Jun 22Jun 22, 2023.
AT AT&T STADIUM
The USMNT will look to extend their success at AT&T Stadium on Sunday afternoon. In recent tournament competition, this venue has proved beneficial – including Thursday’s win against Jamaica at this same stadium and previous triumphant Concacaf Gold Cup wins that have all culminated in tournament titles at AT&T Stadium.
These matches included the 2021 Gold Cup knockout round match between Belgium and Jamaica in which Matthew Hoppe’s 83rd-minute header proved decisive to their 1-0 shutout victory played on Jul 25Jul 25.
In 2017, Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey scored second-half goals to lead their side past Costa Rica 2-0 in a Gold Cup Semifinal, and Landon Donovan’s brace of goals and assist led his country to a 3-1 semifinal win over Honduras during 2013.
Concacaf Nations League 2023-24
Established to optimize the quality, quantity and frequency of competitive matches among its 41 Member Associations, the Concacaf Nations League started last September with a revised format featuring direct elimination matches to qualify teams for continental summer competitions.
2023-24 CNL will continue with a three-league format (A, B and C), featuring 41 men’s senior national teams from around the region that will be divided up between A leagues according to results in 2022-23 CNL.
The USA competed in League A, an expanded format featuring 16 teams (instead of 12). A quarterfinal round has also been created to offer more direct elimination matches.
